My name is Jason and I'm a graphic designer/photographer residing in Joensuu, Finland. I was born in Cape Town, South Africa where I studied and received my diploma as a graphic designer. I worked for many years in the music industry, producing music and using my graphic design skills to help promote companies, musicians and various organisations.
Around 7 years ago, I moved to Finland to learn more about my Finnish roots, to work and to develop my career as a graphic designer. However, it was also in Finland that I grew to become really passionate about photography. After teaching myself about photography, it's now become a major part of my professional and personal life. My photos have been published/featured on websites such as National Geographic, BBC News, Fstoppers (Instagram), Yle Sää and Sanomalehti Karjalainen.
Thank you for visiting my website, I hope that you enjoy my work as much as I have enjoyed creating them!

The mission was simple… to see and photograph the northern lights once again. I wanted to get to the most convenient place I knew which also had a low level of light pollution and faced the north. I decided to visit a summer cottage and take a boat from there to an island close by. […]
This last August was alright for me in terms of my photography. The inspiration is coming back, and I think it has a lot to do with the change of weather and some new, fresh ideas coming to mind. I’ve found that the summer is great for spending time outdoors and for planning future compositions. […]
This summer has been a bit slow for me in terms of photography. Although the season has many unique and interesting weather conditions, I found myself staying up late for the midnight sunsets only a handful of times. July was definitely not my best month for photos, but it was still a blast to be […]
Summer is here and so are the amazing colours that come with it. The days feel long due to the sun only setting around 11pm, so staying awake until late is crucial if one enjoys the golden hour style of photography. I managed to get a few nice landscapes and did a couple of fun […]
The weather is getting warmer and the nights shorter here in Finland. This month was quite rewarding, I captured my first good lighting photo and continued to develop my skills in my home studio. Below are some photos from May 2019. Landscapes/Nature: Above: The last bit of snow sits on an island in early May. […]
April was a bit of a mixed bag. The lakes have been thawing nicely and I have managed to get out into the nature, but in the end there were only one or two landscape photos that I thought were useable. It’s that time of the year where the scenery is mostly brown and patches […]
March. Yeah, March was quite snowy. I spent more time indoors developing my portrait photography than being out in the snow. Not sure if that’s a good or bad thing, but I’m sure that when the lakes thaw and some water starts to show I’ll be back out there doing my usual business. I think […]
February marked the beginning of my journey into portrait photography. I spent a lot of my free time watching videos about lighting and shadows, trying to understand what I would need in order to start practicing. At the end of the month I bought myself a couple of softboxes and a strobe light. I figured […]
The start of this year has been quite interesting for my photography. I’ve attempted some more heavily-edited fine art kind of stuff, as well as some more food and product photography. Unfortunately, many of my shoots this month have been unsuccessful, and I’ve often returned home feeling like some kind of lost ice man with […]
